OAKLAND, Ga. (AP)—Authorities have arrested a man accused of setting a Marion County a church on fire.

Authorities said Jacob Gaydofh, 23, of Oakland, was charged with attempted burglary and arson after being caught by police at the New Providence Baptist Church, which had minor damages.

A church deacon initially noticed the fire and contacted the authorities on Saturday at noon, State Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John Oxendine said.

The arson unit responded at 1 p.m. They found similar matches on Gaydofh that were scattered around the church and at a separate sectioned shed where the man broke into, Oxendine said.
